THE WORKINGS OF GOD
For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever. Amen (Romans 11:36).
When Paul speaks these words, he has just finished teaching the great truth of God and His great wisdom and knowledge, and now he is exalting in the Holy Spirit. The “Him” in “of Him,” many scholars will tell you, is the Father, but I want to offer to you that it is both Father and Son. When God wants to say something to us, He always says it through Jesus. He has nothing to say except through His Son. That is why John got this revelation, “in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it” (John 1:1-5). This means that when He wants to speak, He speaks through His Son. “For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things” (Romans 11:36). Now, if you will get those three truths, you will understand the workings of God. You will become, as it were, more fruitful; you will become more powerful than you have ever become and not for the sake of obtaining power per se, but for the sake of entering completely into what God has for you: being about the work of the Kingdom of God.
In Colossians 1:13, it says, “He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love.” Now notice, “He has” is past tense. He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed, that is, transferred us. He has delivered us, transferred, translated us into the kingdom of the Son of His love. And He says in verse 14, “in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.” Through Jesus Christ we already have full redemption, full reconciliation with our Father, and full access to our Father! What an amazing Savior!
