Henry J. Williams was born in
Corpus Christi, Texas. He is the son of Dr. H. J. and Mrs. Julia Williams.
He attended Booker T. Washington Elementary School, Robert Driscoll Junior
High School, and Roy Miller High School where he was very active in
basketball and track. He continued his education at Del Mar College in
Corpus Christi.
After serving in the Army from
1963 to 1966, he was employed by a number of financial institutions and the
State of Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts.
In July of 1979 he received Jesus
Christ as his Lord and Savior. This born again experience set him free from
an addiction to alcohol. This was the most important event in his life other
than physical birth.
Today Brother Henry is employed
by the Corpus Christi Christian Fellowship as the Church's financial officer
and the Director of the Benevolence Ministry to the poor and needy. He also
serves as an elder at the Fellowship. He is an active member of the Board of
Directors of the Coastal Bend Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Center
(Charlie's). Brother Henry also serves on the Northside Committee, which is
seeking to improve the lives of our citizens in the Northside Manor area.
He is also the chairman of the
Christian Spiritual Outreach Committee which sponsors the Monthly Day of
Prayer and Fasting for the well being of our city, our state, and our
nation. These prayer meetings have been conduction on the 3rd Thursday of
each month at 7:00 PM on the 5th floor auditorium of the Corpus Christi
Police Department since May of 1996. Since these prayer meetings began there
has been a steady decrease in all areas of crime, especially murder.
The vision of the Christian
Spiritual Outreach Committee is that the City of Corpus Christi would live
up to the meaning of its name and become a true city of brotherly love among
all its people.
